The Carmelite sisters of St. Teresa known as the CSST, are the explicit pioneers of English education in Villupuram, from the year 1938. The CSST Foundress Mother Teresa of St. Rose of Lima, is an educationist and social reformer dedicated to the upliftment of the poor and the marginalised. The CSST established Sacred Heart Anglo Indian Hr. Sec School, St. Mary’s Hr. Sec. School, Vikravandi, Sacred Heart Central School and Sacred Heart Arts & Science College, Perani in succession, offering unparalleled educational oppportunities to the community. There are 24 CSST institutions in various places of Tamil Nadu. The Sisters have rendered a path breaking service in the field of education and other social welfare programmes, catering to children, the destitute and the poor, thus endeavouring to bring light and relief.
